An installation in SE26, the connected city

The slide

The fastest way down from the future. It knows when you’re on your way, and sends a pulse of light down with you.

01 The idea

Climate, at speed

Some things in a museum you look at. This one you go down.

Every ride counts: the slide notices you, and the light runs off along the threads to the climate cube, like your ride was a little bit of energy for the city.

02 How it works

Is that a person?

  1. An ESP32 sensor watches the end of the slide ten times a second.
  2. It only counts a ride when it really looks like one: someone arrives, stays at least a moment, and the slide is clear again afterwards.
  3. Each ride sends pulses of light along the threads, flashes the cloud and makes a bird sing in the climate corner.

03 Under the hood

Tuned from the logs

  • The thresholds were set from the sensor’s own logs, with a gap between “here” and “gone”, so a kid who sits up halfway doesn’t count twice.
  • A ride has to last between two and twenty seconds. Anything else is someone leaning on it.

Got something big to say? Let’s make it a place.
